The Oklahoma City Thunder just got some great news regarding star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
After missing nine straight games due to an abdominal strain, the reigning NBA MVP is set to return for the Thunder against the Denver Nuggets on Friday night. Gilgeous-Alexander's last game action came against the Orlando Magic way back on Feb. 3.
On the season, Gilgeous-Alexander has played in 49 games for the Thunder and posted averages of 31.8 points, 6.4 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per performance.
Gilgeous-Alexander will return in time to remain award eligible this season. He needs to play in 16 more games to hit the NBA's 65-game threshold. As a team, the Thunder have 22 regular season games remaining.
The Thunder were able to maintain pole position in the Western Conference standings in Gilgeous-Alexander's absence, but the San Antonio Spurs have been creeping up on them.
The Spurs now sit just two games behind the Thunder on the standings with about a month and a half remaining in the season.
