Seven teams across the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference convened at Saranac High School Sunday for the Section VII Cheer Championships.
Northeastern Clinton was the overall winner, capturing the Section VII, CVAC and Class C titles.
Moriah earned the Class D title.
The co-ed division winner was NAC.
Winners of each division move on to the NYSPHSAA State Championships at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton Saturday.
“I’m so excited that I got to win with them,” NCCS senior Olivia Bosley said. “Honestly, this is probably the best team that I’ve worked with, and I’m so happy that I got to be their captain this year and be, like, the leader for them because I’ve gotten the chance to go to states. I’m so happy that I got to help them get there, too, because it’s just such an amazing experience. and I really wish that, like, everybody could go, but I’m so excited that we’re getting to go.”
Cheerleaders performed dance routines and cheers. With smiles and chants, the crowd routinely joined in, echoing throughout the Saranac gym.
After performances, competitions were held in a jump off and longest-held extension.
“I’m so happy for (my team),” Bosley said. “We know that we’re probably not gonna make it far into states, but it’s just such an amazing experience to even go and perform on that big of a mat in front of all of those teams. I think it’s just, like, the best feeling in the world to be able to do that.”
