McCarron is joining his third National Hockey League franchise. He previously played three seasons with the Montreal Canadiens from 2015 to 2018, and then six seasons with the Nashville Predators from 2020 to 2026.

Also in the past, McCarron had shoulder surgery while with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League. That is a major reason why he did not play in the NHL for two seasons.

McCarron has also spent time in the NHL’s Player Assistance Program.

Known for his physicality, McCarron has 495 penalty minutes in 361 NHL regular season games. Twice McCarron has reached 100 penalty minutes in a season. He had 100 penalty minutes in 2023-24 and 102 penalty minutes in 2024-25.

In 2025-26 with the Predators, McCarron had five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 59 games. He was a -15 with 73 penalty minutes, one shorthanded point, 86 shots on goal, 428 faceoff wins, 60 blocked shots, 165 hits, 17 takeaways and 32 giveaways.

McCarron’s shorthanded goal came in a 7-3 Predators win over the Colorado Avalanche on January 16. McCarron completed the scoring into an empty net with two minutes and 19 seconds left in regulation.

Even though McCarron is designated as a right winger, he has been used in the faceoff circle often. He has won 1781 faceoffs in his career.

Cole Smith

Smith has played the last six seasons with the Predators. This season he has six goals and four assists for 10 points in 42 games. He is a -7 with 31 penalty minutes, one game-winning goal, one shorthanded point, 51 shots on goal, four faceoff wins, 12 blocked shots, 119 hits, 13 takeaways and 15 giveaways.

The game-winning goal came on October 23 in a 2-1 Predators win over the Vancouver Canucks. Smith scored from McCarron and defenseman Justin Barron of Halifax, Nova Scotia at 5:09 of the third period.

The shorthanded point was a shorthanded assist and came on January 8 in a 2-1 Predators win over the New York Islanders. Smith set up Ryan O’Reilly of Clinton, Ontario with the game-tying goal with 41 seconds left in the second period.
