In October, Aspinall made the first defense of his undisputed heavyweight title, taking on former interim champion Cyril Gane at UFC 321; it was a fiasco. Near the end of the first round, Gane poked Aspinall in the eyes, rendering the champion unable to continue, resulting in a No Contest. Things only got worse from there, as for the past several months, Aspinall dealt with lingering eye issues, requiring multiple surgeries. But that may all finally be behind him.
On Thursday, Aspinall teased a return to action with a brief Instagram post and the caption, “Back to business,” suggesting the champ may be ready to return.

Aspinall’s tease also comes ahead of UFC CEO Dana White’s announcement of the UFC White House card for this summer, which is expected to take place this week. It also coincides with White’s announcement that light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira will be vacating his title, though what’s next for “Poatan” remains a mystery.
If Aspinall really is back, this would be a big win for the former champion, who just last month had no timetable on when he could return to fighting.
