Domen Prevc claimed the men's ski jumping overall World Cup title to complete a rare grand slam of major trophies, despite being disqualified from Friday's large hill in Lahti, Finland.

The Slovenian started the celebrations after a jump of 129 metres, which would secure him first place in the event. However, he was disqualified because his skis exceeded the permitted length by one centimetre.

Prevc still sealed his first-ever World Cup title because Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi, who is second in the standings, was only sixth in Lahti and can't reach Prevc any more.

Prevc is only the second athlete ever to complete a grand slam of holding all five major ski jumping titles at the same time. He is also the reigning ski jumping and ski flying world champion, won Olympic large hill gold last month and the Four Hills in January.

Finnish great Matti Nykaenen is the only other athlete who achieved this honour in 1985.

With Prevc's disqualification, Germany's Philipp Raimund was promoted to first place and claimed his maiden World Cup victory after winning normal hill gold at the Milan/Cortina Olympics last month.

Austria's Daniel Tschofenig and Bulgaria's Vladimir Zografski completed the podium.

Family business

Prevc's success came a day after his sister, Nika, secured a third consecutive women's title. They are now the first brother and sister to win the overall title in the same season.

Earlier on Friday, Nika Prevc also claimed a record 16th season victory with a large hill win in Lahti.

After equalling the mark of 15 season victories from Japan's Sara Takanashi (in 2013-14) on Thursday, Prevc took sole possession of the record with jumps of 130 metres and 128.5 metres.

She beat Norway's Anna Odine Strøm by 14.5 points. Japan's Nozomi Maruyama was third.

Prevc's only blemish this term was that she missed an individual gold at the recent Milan/Cortina Olympics and had to settle for silver and bronze.

But she got mixed team gold for Slovenia in a quartet that included her brother.
