According to police, officers instructed the individuals to get out of the vehicle for a search. However, one of the accused allegedly fled and was chased briefly by police on foot before being taken into custody.

During the search of the accused, police allege a loaded illegal handgun and a magazine containing ammunition were found.

Malik Laroche, 18, and Jedidiah Henry, 19, both of Brampton, and David Eze, 22, of Mississauga, were arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, possess firearm with altered serial number, and careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.

Laroche is also accused of carrying a concealed weapon while Eze faces a charge of having care or control of a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available.

“Every night, Peel Regional Police officers make a difference in our community,” Chief Nishan Duraiappah said in a statement.

“Last night was no different. Thanks to our STEP team officers for keeping illegal firearms out of the hands of violent criminals and making our community a safer place for all.”

Police said the seizure marks the 36th illegal firearm STEP team officers have seized in the last 11 months.
