General Manager presents safety award to 12 Central Railway employees

Prateek Goswami, General Manager, Central Railway, felicitated 12 Central Railway employees with the Safety Award at a function held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai on March 10, 2026.

The awards were presented in recognition of the alertness, presence of mind and dedication to duty displayed by the employees while on duty, which helped avert potential incidents and ensured safe train operations in recent months. Each award consists of a medal, commendation certificate, citation for exemplary safety work and a cash prize of ₹3,500.

Mumbai Division (two awardees)

G C Issac, Station Manager, Mankhurd, while on duty on January 24, 2026 noticed aluminium strips entangled in the trolley of the last coach of a Panvel-bound local train. Issac immediately showed the danger signal and managed to stop the train. The strips were removed with the help of an on-duty pointsman and RPF personnel and the train departed safely. His alertness and prompt action helped avert a potential incident.

Sumit Kumar, Train Manager, CSMT, while on duty on January 28, 2026 on a MUCK special train noticed unusual dust being thrown up as the train passed Kalva station. The train was stopped and inspection revealed a broken frame of a coach. He immediately informed all concerned and timely action was taken, preventing a possible serious incident.

Nagpur Division (four awardees)

Digambar Singh, Deputy Station Manager, Bhandak, while on duty on January 24, 2026 during exchange of signals with a passing goods train noticed a hot axle in one of the wagons. He immediately informed all concerned and timely action was taken, preventing a possible serious incident.

Arvind Kumar, Senior Train Manager, Nagpur, while on duty on February 14, 2026 noticed fire in one of the wagons of a passing goods train on the opposite track. He alerted all concerned and stopped the train by showing a red signal. Investigation revealed serious brake binding and timely action prevented a possible serious incident.

Mujahid Hussain, Senior Technician (TRS), Ajni, while on duty on January 19, 2026 during maintenance of locomotive number 31089 noticed a six-inch crack on the CBC yoke plate of cab number two. He immediately informed all concerned, helping avert a potential mishap.

Sanjiv Kumar Singh, Pointsman, Sindi, while on duty on February 17, 2026 noticed smoke and fire in the last coach of Train number 12616 Grand Trunk Express. He alerted the Station Master and stopped the train in the section by showing a red signal. The fire was extinguished and the train departed safely.

Pune Division (three awardees)

Vinod Mangade, Pointsman, Nandre, while on duty on February 19, 2026 during exchange of signals with a passing goods train noticed a hot axle in one of the wagons. He showed the danger signal, stopped the train and informed all concerned, preventing a possible serious incident.

Vishal Harpude, Gangmate, Pune, while on patrolling duty on January 29, 2026 noticed a wheel burn at km 190/9-10. He immediately informed all concerned, preventing a potential accident.

Anil Kumar, Trackman, Talegaon, while on caution order protection duty on February 17, 2026 at km 147/39-19 signalled the Vande Bharat Express to reduce speed after it crossed the maximum permissible speed in the section. His alertness helped prevent a possible incident.

Bhusawal Division (two awardees)

Vinod Kumar, Lineman, Badnera, while on patrolling duty on February 1, 2026 on the Badnera-Amravati section noticed that the catenary wire at km 670A/14-15 was damaged by about 60% due to a kite string. He took immediate safety precautions and informed all concerned, preventing a potential accident.

Veerpal Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector (RPF), Malkapur, while on duty on January 29, 2026 at 23.35 hrs noticed a passenger falling while attempting to board the general coach of Train number 12139 Sewagram Express after it had started moving. He immediately intervened and saved the passenger from serious injury.

Solapur Division (one awardee)

Ambadas Devkar, Senior Technician (Train Lighting), Solapur, while attending a power failure complaint in Train number 12702 Hussain Sagar Express on January 24, 2026 identified the fault caused by a short circuit and resolved the issue promptly, helping avert a potential incident.

Goswami congratulated the awardees for their exemplary devotion to duty and alertness, and expressed confidence that their actions would inspire other railway employees to remain vigilant and committed to ensuring passenger safety and protection of railway assets.

Chandra Kishore Prasad, Principal Chief Safety Officer, along with other principal heads of departments and senior officers of Central Railway, was present on the occasion.
