The Stuart Cramer standout was named the state’s Gatorade girls basketball Player of the Year on Friday, March 13.
In its 41st year, the award recognizes the “nation’s best high school athletes for their excellence in sport, academics and community.” The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one state winner from each of the 50 states, as well as Washington, D.C. in 12 different sports.
Holland earned the honor following a season in which she averaged 34 points per game, along with 8.5 rebounds, 7.4 steals and 7.1 assists. She recorded five double-doubles.
“(Holland) is a fierce competitor on both ends of the floor,” said Lincolnton girls basketball coach Tanetta Mutz, whose team faced Stuart Cramer twice this past season. “She does an amazing job defensively — causing havoc and oftentimes turning her defensive stops into offensive plays.”
Holland finished with 3,252 career points, the most in NCHSAA girls basketball history. She is a Wake Forest women’s basketball signee.
The Cramer standout is also an all-star off the floor. A member of the school’s English Honors Society and Beta Club, she also served as a volunteer in its Chick-fil-A Leadership Club. Holland holds a 3.8 GPA.
