Janitor allegedly planted hidden camera in female washroom at his Whitby workplace

A 45-year-old man is accused of planting a hidden camera in a restroom at his workplace in Whitby, allegedly capturing images of dozens of women over a span of nearly four years.
Toronto Police say officers began a voyeurism investigation on Jan. 9 – although it’s unknown what sparked the probe.

“It is alleged that the accused placed a hidden camera inside a female washroom at a manufacturing facility in the Thickson Rd. and Tricont Ave. area (south of Hwy. 401) where he works as a custodian,” police said in a statement released Saturday.
“The accused was found in possession of a media card containing hidden video and audio recordings taken inside the female washroom,” police claim.
Numerous additional videos allegedly found at Scarborough home
Officers allegedly discovered more evidence when they executed a Criminal Code search warrant at a residence near McCowan Rd. and Finch Ave. E. – in Scarborough – on Jan. 29.
“It is further alleged that officers located numerous additional videos from the hidden camera,” police said.
Francis Ambas, of Toronto, was arrested.
He is charged with 85 counts of voyeurism and one count of possession of a Schedule One substance.
Investigators are concerned about the possibility of additional alleged victims.
Police said anyone who used the female washroom between April 4, 2022, and Jan. 29, 2026, “may have been recorded without their knowledge or consent.”
Investigators have released an image of the accused.
