Cal State East Bay rallies to stay unbeaten, reach Division II men's basketball regional final

Amare Campbell scored 20 points and Cal State East Bay overcame a seven-point deficit in the final 6½ minutes with a 16-0 run as the Pioneers defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 76-67 in Hayward on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division II men's tournament.

Cal State East Bay (32-0), which opened the tournament with a win over Cal Poly Humboldt State on Friday night, trailed by six in the first half before closing to within 38-36 at the intermission. After the teams took turns holding the lead early in the second half, Cal State Dominguez Hills (22-9) eventually built a 65-58 lead with 6:28 remaining.

From that point, the Pioneers went on their run, which eventually grew to 18-2. During that time, the Toros went 0-for-9 from the field with four turnovers. Cal State Dominguez Hills' only points during that span came on two free throws with 29 seconds remaining.

Tyree Campbell joined Amare Campbell in double figures with 14 points, Jaayden Bush added 11 and Jalen Foy had 10 for the Pioneers.

DeSean Stevens scored 19 points for Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Cal State East Bay, the top seed in the West Regional, will face third-seeded Point Loma in a Sweet 16 game in Hayward on Monday. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals, which will be held March 25 in Indianapolis.
