Former Texas A&M RB and Emmitt Smith's son invited to Cowboys workout

· Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M's 2025 running back room was highly successful, despite a late-season drop off after senior Le'Veon Moss was lost for the year, vaulting Rueben Owens into the starting spot, while freshman Jamarion Morrow, and sixth-year senior back EJ Smith took a majority of the remaining snaps, helping the Aggies finish the regular season 11-1 and 7-1 in SEC play.

Knowing that Moss and Smith were set to depart following the 2025 season, both players participated in Wednesday's annual Texas A&M Pro Day, impressing the NFL scouts and coaches in attendance, including Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer. For those outside of the Texas A&M fan base who missed the connection, Smith is the son of HOF running back and former Dallas Cowboys star Emmitt Smith.

EJ Smith transferred to Texas A&M before the 2024 season after four seasons at Stanford, and while injuries took a toll early in his career, the former four-star prospect provided adequate depth. However, it was revealed this time last year that he was also banged up during his first season at College Station, but entered the 2025 offseason healthy and ready to get back to form.

Serving as the No. 3 or 4 option for most of the season, Smith's best performance came a week after Le'Veon Moss was injured vs. Florida, rushing for 52 yards and averaging 7.4 yards per carry during the Aggies' 45-42 road win at Arkansas. Scoring touchdowns against Missouri, South Carolina, and the Texas Longhorns, the running game struggled to find any room during the first round CFP loss to Miami.

Still, Smith's athleticism and physical running style have intrigued NFL teams, especially from a depth perspective after recording a 10'00" broad jump, a 35.50" vertical jump, and an impressive 20 reps (225 lbs) on the bench press during Wednesday's Pro Day.

This performance led Brian Schottenheimer to invite Smith to participate in the "Dallas Day" workouts later this month.
