The New England Patriots intend to replenish their quarterback room in 2026 following their decision to release backup quarterback Joshua Dobbs this offseason.
The Patriots have Tommy DeVito as their backup behind Second-Team All-Pro starter Drake Maye as presently constructed. However, New England waged a run to the Super Bowl last season with three quarterbacks on their roster. The same dynamic is the direction that the Patriots are trending in for next season.

According to MassLive’s Mark Daniels, Patriots coach Mike Vrabel stated that the Patriots desire to add a young quarterback to their roster that they can develop.
The Patriots will have the opportunity to target a top quarterback prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft. Miami quarterback Carson Beck, as well as LSU's Garrett Nussmeier, are among the best prospects projected to go outside of the first round on draft day.

Veteran quarterbacks above the age of 30 dominate the pool of players remaining at the position in the open market. The draft will present New England with the chance to select the young quarterback that they seek in 2026.
