Dodgers Make Decision on Mookie Betts’ Injury

· Yahoo Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers will move shortstop Mookie Betts to the injured list following his MRI, per The Athletic’s Katie Woo.

Betts underwent an MRI Saturday night following his early exit from the Dodgers’ 10-5 win over the Washington Nationals, and it revealed he suffered a right oblique strain. Per Woo, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts avoided putting a concrete timetable on Betts, but is hopeful he will miss less than 4-6 weeks.

Roberts commented on Betts’ status after Saturday’s game.

“It’s certainly more moderate than significant,” Roberts said. “We’ll huddle up and see if we need to get a player here to protect against us, depending on how the MRI comes. But yeah, (Betts) certainly won’t be playing the next couple days, I would assume.

“…Disappointed for him. We’re sort of starting to get going a little bit, and the way he’s playing defense, and he’s a big part of what we do. Any time you miss, it’s gonna take some time to kind of get your footing. So disappointed for him, but hopeful that it’s not long-term.”

Who Will Replace Mookie Betts in the Lineup?

The Dodgers have already released their lineup for Sunday’s series finale, and Miguel Rojas is batting second while filling in at shortstop.

LA will also call up Hyeseong Kim, who controversially started the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, and have him split time at shortstop with the veteran. Alex Freeland, a switch hitter, will primarily play second, per MLB.com’s Sonja Chen.

How Has Mookie Betts Performed So Far?

Betts had playd in all eight of the Dodgers’ games this season prior to his injury, and got off to a middling start to 2026.

The former MVP got off to a slow start along with the rest of the offense, but picked it up during their first road trip of the season. All in all, he has two home runs and seven RBIs while slashing .179/.281/.429. His .710 OPS ranks second to last among qualified Dodgers hitters.

Betts’ injury is rough for the Dodgers, who had just begun to put things together on offense. They’ll hope he can piece together a speedy recovery as they continue to push towards a third consecutive World Series title.

LA leads the NL West with a 6-2 record, and will look to sweep the Nationals on the road in Sunday’s game, which will start after a rain delay.
