Softball: Benson Braves venture into a new conference

Apr. 7—BENSON — A few changes have been made for the Benson softball team heading into 2026.

New head coach Robb Miller replaces Brennan Hagen-Kent, who coached the Braves for one season His assistant coach is Grace Lee this spring.

Miller looks to lead a new charge for a Benson squad that went 3-18 last year, which included a 1-13 record in the West Central Conference. It was the Braves' final season in the WCC.

Benson, which sought a better fit conference-wise, joined the Prairie. Its conference opponents are Browerville, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Osakis, Swanville and Upsala.

"We are looking forward to the season and joining a new conference," Miller said. "Our girls have been working hard in practice and they are showing great progress."

Miller has a strong senior class to work with and that veteran group includes Dallas Carey, Madi Osterbauer, Ava Williams and Megan and Paige Wrobleski.

Benson's junior class also has strong numbers including Grace Aarhus, Mariah Goossen, Alice Kaiser, Hallie Kobbermann, Jada O'Leary, Bree Ollendick and Irelyn Schwendemann.

As good as the upperclassmen numbers are, the Braves have similar underclassmen numbers.

Brooklyn Cochrane, Ava Klassen, Ella Lysen, Anya Ollendick, Madisyn Razink, Ella Sanders and Kinsley Trump are in Benson's sophomore class.

There are also six ninth-graders who Miller listed: Emmie Grussing, Aubrie Flaaten, Ava Kannegiesser, Sydney Moe, Tess Nygaard and Eleanore Olson.

Miller's returning starters for 2026 are Carey, O'Leary, Osterbauer, Williams and the Wrobleskis.
