He could have been the first overall pick in both this year’s and last year’s NFL Draft. In a recent interview with On3’s Chris Low, Smith spoke confidently about his abilities.

"I feel like everybody in the world would take me in a heartbeat. Nobody in college football is better than me when I’m at my best," Smith said.

"I don’t think people would even think about who they would take if it was up for grabs. I think everybody knows who the best player in college football is, and it’s Jeremiah Smith."

Smith did not shy away from calling himself the nation’s best, and while some might see it as bold or even arrogant, the numbers back him up.

In his two years in Columbus, Smith has totaled 163 catches for 2,558 yards and 27 receiving touchdowns with 2 rushing touchdowns as well. Those are massive numbers, and he has been nothing short of magnificent in his Scarlet and Gray career. This upcoming season, he has a real chance to become the best wide receiver Ohio State has ever seen, with multiple records within reach.

The most receiving yards in Ohio State history belong to Emeka Egbuka with 2,868 yards over 49 games. Smith currently ranks sixth all-time with 2,558 yards, just 310 yards shy of the record. The receiving touchdown record is held by Chris Olave, who tallied 36 touchdowns in 41 games. Smith is currently fifth all-time with 27 touchdowns, needing just 9 more to tie Olave. What makes this even more impressive is the number of games played. Both Olave and Egbuka reached their marks over 40-plus games, while Smith is closing in on these records before even playing 30 total games for Ohio State.

It is remarkable, and he is well on his way to becoming perhaps the greatest wide receiver in Ohio State history.
