Doc Rivers was named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame's Class of 2026, officially announced April 4 in Indianapolis. The Milwaukee Bucks have endured a difficult 2025-26 season and are tracking toward missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

The coach has gone 97-101 in Milwaukee since he was hired in January 2024. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype asked him ahead of a road game against Brooklyn how much longer he envisions coaching; his answer needs no interpretation.
Seven grandkids and a Hall of Fame honor are pulling Rivers toward retirement
"I won't answer that," Rivers said. "But I have grandkids that I want to see. I'll put it that way. I'll let you figure it out from there. I have seven grandkids now and they're all 8 years and under. And it kills me every time I miss 'Grandparents' Day' with each one of them in school. It's probably time to go see them more."
He added: "I'll let you figure out the rest."
Reports have surfaced recently that there is growing anticipation in league coaching circles that Rivers and the Bucks could be heading for a parting or some form of restructuring when this season comes to an end.
He is under contract through next season, and with every speculation, he won't be walking away from the remaining money.
Still, the Hall of Fame induction, combined with a losing record in Milwaukee, creates real questions that fans wanted answers to.
Former Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins has already emerged as a likely candidate if Milwaukee chooses to release him.
Rivers has more than 1,180 wins across 27 seasons and a championship with the 2008 Boston Celtics.
