2026 NFL draft: Daniel Jeremiah tabs QB Drew Allar perfect Jets target

· Yahoo Sports

This may not come across as breaking news, but for the New York Jets, quarterback conversations never really go away. The franchise’s history at the position, especially recently, has been well documented.

High-profile swings haven’t always worked out. Green Bay Packers legends Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers both spent time with the organization. Neither delivered the long-term stability the organization hoped for.

Sam Darnold comes to mind. He's now part of the narrative. Thanks is, in part, due to his recent success elsewhere (and his Super Bowl win). For a Jets fan, it's hard to avoid the temptation to begin conversations about a potential "curse."

Now, the Jets are turning back to a familiar face. Geno Smith is back for another run, and head coach Aaron Glenn has publicly backed him, stating he believes Smith can lead the team to “the promised land.”

That’s the right message. It’s the one any head coach should deliver. No one should take issue with Glenn. What was he supposed to say? "'This guy doesn't have what it takes?'"

Glenn's vote of confidence shouldn't silence discussions about the bigger picture.

Daniel Jeremiah offers a solution to the Jets QB conundrum.

At some point, the Jets have to find their next franchise quarterback. That’s just the reality of the NFL. Enter NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah.

Jeremiah recently pointed to Penn State's Drew Allar as a slam-dunk option for New York. That is, if he’s still available in the middle rounds of the selection meeting. It’s the kind of suggestion that doesn’t come with the pressure of a top-five pick but still carries meaningful upside.

Allar brings size, experience, and flashes of high-level play. He’s not a finished product, but that may actually work in the Jets’ favor. Developing a quarterback behind a veteran like Smith allows for patience, something this franchise hasn’t always had the luxury of exercising.

And maybe that’s the key. New York can't be passive, but for once, the Jets don’t need to rush to an answer. They just need to find the right one, and a six-foot-five, 225-pound gunslinger is a good place to begin the search. If the Jets finally get this one right, it won’t be because they rushed. It will be because they learned. This can't be about making a splash. It has to be about making the right call.
