CJ baseball topples Branson 8-1

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — The Carl Junction High School baseball team got off to a hot start Tuesday, plating five runs in the bottom of the first inning, and the Bulldogs never looked back en route to an 8-1 win over the Branson High School Pirates (10-7) at CJHS.

A CJ starter who recently committed to Pittsburg State University, Cooper Vediz stymied Branson hitters, giving up no runs and just two hits while striking out eight and walking two in five innings of work.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the first when Brody Pant doubled with a liner to right field that drove in Tyson Massey. Pant made it 2-0 when he scored on a wild pitch. Deacon Endicott later scored on a Pirate error, Logan Haynes came home on a bases-loaded walk and Cole Beezley made it 5-0 when he plated Brayden Larery with a sacrifice fly to right field.
CJ (16-5) increased its lead to 8-0 with three more runs in the bottom of the third frame. Owin Walker plated Larery with a single to right field, Aidan Spencer scored on a fielder’s choice and Vediz sent Beezley across the plate with a double to center field.
Branson’s lone run of the game came in the top of the sixth off a Wit Miller single that scored Brooks Schafer.
Four Bulldogs logged multiple hits. Larery was 3 for 4 with two runs, Walker finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Pant went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI and Vediz was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Miller led Branson after finishing 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Pirates starter Sam Vejraska was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs (three earned) on two hits. He lasted just one out, striking out none and walking three.
With the win, the Bulldogs have won 12 of their last 13 games. The two teams meet again at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Branson.
