United beat Lisbon, 10-0, to be the first game played on the new turf. Crestview vs. Columbiana followed.
“They did an amazing job on it. We’re just happy to be here, the turf is beautiful,” said United head coach Tim Hydrick.
“It just it was an an honor just to be the first game on the turf,” said Lisbon head coach Doug Andric. “It was just a great atmosphere up here. It’s a privilege for any high school kid to play on a field like this.”
The field’s original surface was grass, which stood for 27 years. Now, the entire infield and outfield are all outfitted with turf.
United advances to 8-2 and plays West Branch Saturday, April 18. Lisbon falls to 4-5 and takes on Chaney next April 21.
The Scrappers will play on the new field for the first time against State College at 7:05 p.m. June 2.
Youngstown Baseball also calls the stadium home and will debut on the new turf against Toledo on Wednesday, April 22.
