Bayern Munich’s Vincent Kompany turns down punditry roles at World Cup

Believe it or not, being a football manager is a very demanding job. Bayern Munich’s head coach Vincent Kompany, for example, certainly spends more than 8 hours a day working during the week. And, unlike a usual 9-5 job, the weekend is certainly not stress free. So one has to take all the breaks one can get in that profession.

That is probably why Kompany insisted on a work free summer. According to Daily Mail reporter Mike Keegan (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), this means also turning down being involved in some small way at the 2026 World Cup:

Vincent Kompany has rejected punditry offers from multiple broadcasters ahead of the World Cup. The Belgian instead intends to relax and re-energise over the summer following an intense season.

How much of a break from football Kompany can take is the question. Will he relax on the beach somewhere tropical or will he still watch the biggest football sporting event in the world? One must imagine, given how much of a football fan he is, that the temptation to watch the World Cup will be strong.
