Softball: Shawnee ranked No. 1 for the first time in school history, KR still tops in D-IV state poll

The Shawnee High School softball program is the top-ranked team in the state for the first time in school history, while defending state champ Kenton Ridge remained No. 1 in Division IV.

The Braves are tied atop the D-V state poll with defending state champ Liberty Union and Wheelersburg in the second Ohio High School Softball Coaches Poll, which was released Monday, April 20.

All three teams tied with 80 points — Liberty Union received four first-place votes, followed by Shawnee with three and Wheelersburg with two.

Shawnee is 16-1 this season with its lone loss coming against Kenton Ridge last Friday. The unbeaten Cougars (15-0) — who have won 47 consecutive games — received all 11 first-place votes in D-IV.

Kenton Ridge was recently ranked No. 16 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll and No. 12 in the MaxPreps Top 25.

In D-I, defending state champion Lebanon (12-5) is third. Three other area teams are ranked, including No. 4 Lakota East (14-3), No. 7 Centerville (11-4) and No. 9 Fairmont (10-5).

Unbeaten Troy (16-0) is ranked No. 7 in the D-II state poll.

Greenville (16-1) is No. 2 in D-III, while Oxford Talawanda (14-3) is No. 8.

In D-V, Miami East (12-4) is No. 8.

Midwest Athletic Conference member Parkway (xx) is ranked No. 1 in D-VI, while defending state champion Tri-Village (14-3) is No. 4, up three spots from No. 7.

South Charleston Southeastern (15-2) is ranked No. 8 in D-VII. Covington (16-3) is No. 9.
