Brampton man accused of fraud in roofing scheme; cops seeking to ID wallet thief

A 23-year-old Brampton man has been charged with fraud and other offences after elderly victims were allegedly offered roof repairs and other services that were never completed.
Toronto Police said two elderly victims were approached in July 2024 by “multiple” male suspects who were purported to be “legitimate” contractors and City of Toronto workers.

The victims paid for roof repairs, “mandatory” backyard cleanups and “emergency” home repairs that were never completed or required, police said.
Arashdeep Singh was arrested on Tuesday and charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, two counts of laundering the proceeds of crime and three counts each of fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Police said they believe there may be more victims and that business names used in the alleged scheme included Xcellent Custom Homes Ltd., Friendly Masonry Ltd. and 17051450 Canada Inc.

Wallet, bank cards nicked from unsuspecting victims
Toronto Police are asking for help in identifying a male suspect accused of lifting a wallet and bank cards from unsuspecting victims.
Police said the first victim was targeted on Nov. 29, 2025, at a financial institution in The East Mall-Burnhamthorpe Rd. area of Etobicoke, where the suspect was walking close to the victim before stealing their wallet.
The suspect was last seen walking northbound on The East Mall.
Police said another victim was approached on Jan. 30 in a parking lot near Burnhamthorpe and Dundas St. W., where they were told by the suspect that there was a problem with their car.
The victim’s bank cards were taken once they got out of their car, which police said were later used by the suspect to make withdrawals.
Police said the suspect is 50 to 70 years old and about 5-foot-9 to 6-foot with a white beard. He was wearing a dark jacket and sunglasses.
