Hamilton Police say officers responded around 6:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting inside an apartment unit on Main St. W. near Caroline St.
When officers arrived, the victim was found with gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital where he later died .
On Friday afternoon, police identified Talon Williams-Parkin as the city’s third homicide victim of the year.
According to police, the victim and two suspects were inside the apartment when gunfire erupted.
‘Exchange of gunfire’
“Investigators believe an exchange of gunfire occurred inside the unit within the building,” Det. Staff-Sgt. Michael Ebert said during a press conference at police headquarters.
“During the incident, the victim was struck, and evidence (at the scene) suggests the suspect may also have been injured.”
Ebert said it is unknown which suspect was injured or the seriousness of the suspected injury.

He also said the information he currently has is that the suspects fled the scene on foot but in an unknown direction.
Shortly after the shooting, police said they received a report of an injured person in the area. However, cops cannot confirm whether that call is connected to this incident.
Investigators believe the suspects and victim were somewhat known to each other and that the shooting was targeted.
Ebert said he was unsure how many shots were fired and could not confirm if a firearm had been found at the scene as investigators continue to collect evidence.
“People being in possession of firearms is concerning at any time,” Ebert said. “We are doing everything we can to identify these suspects.”
Two suspects sought
Investigators described the suspects as Black males, one who is short with long dreadlocks and a fat face, and the other tall, thin, with dreads, and wearing a blue face mask.
“There are security cameras in the building and there are CCTV cameras in the area,” Ebert said. “We’re still working to collect that video and piece together the circumstances before and after the shooting.”
Investigators have spoken to some witnesses and other residents in the area but are asking anyone with information to call Det. Dan Harris at 905-546-4067 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
The latest killing in Hamilton comes four days after a 14-year-old boy wanted for murder surrendered to police in the shooting death of a 16-year-old male, who was gunned down last Friday inside Jackson Square.
