Crocodile euthanised after discovery of human remains – WATCH

Human remains suspected to be those of a missing Gauteng businessman have been recovered from a crocodile in the Komati River near Komatipoort, marking a grim development in a week-long search operation.

The search began after the unnamed 59-year-old’s Ford Ranger was discovered trapped on a low-lying bridge in the river, raising concerns over his disappearance.

Identified a crocodile

According to the South African Police Service, a coordinated team comprising SAPS Search and Rescue, NatJoint, South African National Parks, Emergency Medical Services, Securecon, and the Port Management Committee participated in the operation.

Authorities had identified a crocodile believed to have been linked to the incident.

Following the necessary approvals, the animal was euthanised, and suspected human remains were subsequently recovered from its intestines.

DNA analysis is currently underway to confirm the identity of the deceased.

Commended the search team

Acting Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi commended the search teams for their commitment under hazardous conditions.

“I give honour to the dedicated team that has put their lives in danger to find the missing person. I know it was not easy, but they did not give up, even when faced with dangerous situations,” Mkhwanazi said.

The discovery has shocked the local community and added a tragic dimension to the investigation, as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the businessman’s disappearance.
