The Major League Baseball trade deadline is still three months away, but the Boston Red Sox look like they could become big-time sellers.

Between injuries, manager Alex Cora's firing, and possible dysfunction in the clubhouse, things have not gone well, to say the least.

That's why FanSided's Cody Williams sees a scenario in which the Red Sox trade one of the bright spots in what's been an underwhelming lineup.

"It's not at all hyperbolic to say that Willson Contreras has been the only consistently effective offensive force for the Red Sox," Williams wrote Sunday. "And while it might sound crazy, just 33 games into the season, to suggest trading away the one veteran offensive piece that's working for this lineup right now on a day-to-day basis, that's what we have to prepare ourselves for with how things are trending with this team. The bottom could very realistically fall out further, and Contreras could fetch a pretty penny."

Contreras is signed through the 2027 season, with a club option for 2028. Offensively, the three-time All-Star has been the best hitter in Boston's lineup. His seven home runs and .879 OPS lead the club.

No other Red Sox hitter has clubbed more than four homers (Wilyer Abreu) in 2026.

"He could net the Red Sox potential future starters, and should things sour further with this team, then at least exploring what could be had for Contreras is well worthwhile," Williams added.
