Kaizer Chiefs news: new coach, 11 players out?

· The South African

Despite securing their highest league finish in six years, Kaizer Chiefs could still make major changes to their technical team ahead of next season.

Under co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, Amakhosi finished third in the Betway Premiership and booked a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup. The Soweto giants also secured a return to the MTN8 after missing out on the competition for the previous two seasons.

However, the club is expected to reshuffle its coaching department as management looks to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours next season.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Pitso Mosimane have emerged as leading candidates for the hot seat at Naturena.

Kaizer Chiefs to get new coach?

Mosimane has repeatedly been linked with the Amakhosi job over the years and remains one of the most respected coaches on the continent following his successful spell with Al Ahly.

His experience and winning pedigree make him an attractive option for Chiefs, although questions remain over whether the club would be willing to meet the financial demands of the former CAF Champions League-winning coach.

Kaizer Chiefs are also expected to overhaul their playing squad, with several departures likely before the start of the new campaign.

Among the players who could leave the club are George Matlou, Zitha Kwinika, Bruce Bvuma, Fiacre Ntwari, Gaston Sirino, Khanyisa Mayo, Etiosa Ighodaro, Happy Mashiane, Samkelo Zwane, Paseka Mako and Ashley du Preez.

With significant changes expected both on and off the pitch, Kaizer Chiefs appear determined to usher in a new era as they aim to return to competing for domestic and continental honours.
