Houck is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and is hoping to return later this season. As he begins throwing, an MLB.com injury update revealed he’s targeting a late June return to the mound, which should mean he would be close to making rehab starts after that.
“Making 75 throws out to 105 feet three days a week, and 30 throws at 60 feet three days a week while throwing changeups those days. Targeting mound work in late June,” the injury update article read.
Houck has one more of team control, so getting the right-hander back for a potential playoff push would be big for the team, as he can help eat some innings down the stretch. But, the right-hander will need to avoid any setbacks, but the latest update is good news for the right-hander and his potential return this season.
Before the injury last season, Houck struggled as he went 0-3 with an 8.04 ERA in nine starts, but the year prior, he was 9-10 with a 3.12 ERA in 30 starts and was named an All-Star for the first time in his career in 2024.
As for the Red Sox, Boston is 18-25 after losing a home series to the Philadelphia Phillies.
