Report – Juventus Boss Considers Handing Forgotten Midfielder Second Chance in Turin

Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is reportedly contemplating handing Douglas Luiz a second chance in Turin. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the veteran coach is considering bringing the Brazilian midfielder back to Turin in the summer.

Douglas Luiz joined Juventus from Aston Villa in a complex, player-plus-cash deal in the summer of 2024. Indeed, the Bianconeri shelled out around €50 million to secure his signature. Furthermore, Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior moved in the opposite direction.

However, the 28-year-old struggled in his first season at the club, making just 19 appearances in Serie A. Unable to find his footing, Luiz left Turin to join Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan last summer. Yet, the Tricky Trees terminated his short-term contract in January.

When it looked like his career was destined to hit a new low, Villa offered him an escape route in January. Luiz has rediscovered his form in the second half of the season, and his renaissance has not gone unnoticed. For context, Spalletti is ready to throw him a lifeline at Juventus.

Our take on Juventus & Douglas Luiz

Luiz’s first season in Serie A was an unmitigated disaster. However, it’s fair to say that a series of fitness setbacks derailed his first stint at the club.

Meanwhile, Juventus are in the market for midfield reinforcements after Teun Koopmeiners and Khephren Thuram faltered in the creative department.

Despite identifying Manchester City megastar Bernardo Silva as his top midfield target, Spalletti could use a player of Luiz’s quality and experience to ensure squad depth.

Therefore, Juventus may not necessarily offload the Brazilian in the upcoming transfer window.
