Rousey vs. Carano video: Bloody Nate Diaz stopped on stool by Mike Perry when coach intervenes

· Yahoo Sports

Mike Perry vs. Nate Diaz was blood and guts, but more so for one-half of the equation than the other.

This, likely among other things he didn't like, caused coach Richard Perez to intervene and waive off the fight on behalf of his fighter, Diaz (21-14). The stoppage came between the second and third rounds, with Diaz on the stool. Perry (15-8) was declared the winner due to TKO (corner stoppage). The fight served as the co-main event for Netflix's Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano card at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif.

Fight fans are well-acquainted with what both men have to offer in the violence department, and even though they are toward the end of their competitive careers, they still went shot-for-shot for as long as Saturday's bout lasted.

Both men were fairly aggressive from the opening bell, but Perry was the one landing - over and over. The margin of success seemed to increase as the fight went on. By the end of Round 2, Diaz was soaked in blood. He was drilled by a Mike Perry knee that knocked him down right before the end-of-round horn.

As the cutmen tended to Diaz, he spoke to Perez on the stool. It's unclear what was said, but Perez made a definitive motion to call off the fight and Diaz did not argue.

It's unclear where Perry and Diaz go from here. Diaz had competed in two boxing matches, against Jorge Masvidal and Jake Paul, since his UFC departure in late 2022. This was his first MMA fight in over three-and-a-half years. Perry had grown to be one of bareknuckle boxing's biggest stars. This was his first MMA fight since April 2021.
