Drayton Mitchell's cycle powers Calallen to Game 1 win over Davenport

Drayton Mitchell saved a historic performance for Calallen's biggest game yet.

The Wildcats' do-it-all player hit for the cycle and drove in three runs to power Calallen to a 11-1 win against Davenport in Game 1 of the Class 4A Division I regional final on Thursday, May 21 at San Antonio's North East ISD Sports Park.

Mitchell finished 4 for 4 with a single, double, triple and home run as Calallen won in five innings and moved within one game of returning to the state semifinals.

Calallen scored once in the first inning, twice in the second and four times in the third to build an early 7-0 lead. The Wildcats added three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to secure the win via the 10-run mercy rule.

Reese Rusher finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Blake Quinn added two hits and two RBIs to pace Calallen's offense. Carson Klostermann doubled and scored twice and Jager Batek added a home run. Aidan Flores tripled and scored twice for the Wildcats.

Starting pitcher Coll Carroll earned the win on the mound after allowing one run on three hits with seven strikeouts.

Game 2 is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday at Cabaniss Baseball Field.
