Dodgers Welcome Back Kike Hernandez Amid Max Muncy Injury

Right on time, the Los Angeles Dodgers are getting back utility player Kike Hernandez to help out at third base with Max Muncy suffering a wrist injury.

At the top of the eighth inning, Muncy was hit up high by a sinker, leading to him yelling out in pain and getting pulled from the game immediately after.
Santiago Espinal came in for Muncy and will fill in for the Dodgers over the weekend.
However, when the Dodgers return to Los Angeles for the end of the current road trip on Monday, the team will activate Kike Hernandez, who has been on the injured list since the start of the year.

It is unclear who will be moved off the active roster to make room for Hernandez, but all indications point to Santiago Espinal being the casualty.
Espinal is in for his positional versatility and right-handed bat, both of which Hernandez provides, along with the ability to play in the outfield.

What should the Dodgers expect from Kike Hernandez?
The Dodgers need to get ready for a Kike Hernandez that is going to be the healthiest he has been in months. He is returning from an elbow injury that sidelined him for months during the 2025 regular season.
Hernandez played through the pain at the end of the year just to be out on the field. After winning his third World Series title, he went through surgery over the offseason.
Now, he has taken it easy on his recovery, doing a very long rehabilitation assignment down in Oklahoma City Triple-A.
Down in the minors, he is hitting .237 with nine hits, two doubles, and a triple. Hernandez has played in 11 games for them thus far.
With him healthy and feeling right, the Dodgers will be hoping for a better hitter than the one who hit just .203 and posted a 73 OPS+ in 2025.
