USC baseball suffers heartbreaking Big Ten Tournament loss to UCLA

On Saturday, the USC baseball team battled crosstown rival UCLA in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament. After taking care of business against Michigan State in the quarterfinals on Friday, the Trojans got an opportunity to prove themselves against the No. 1 team in the country.
The game was a thriller. USC went up 3-0 early, before UCLA battled back to take a 4-3 lead. In the top of the ninth inning, however, the Trojans rallied to score two runs and go back in front 5-4.

In the bottom of the ninth, USC was one out away from its biggest victory of the season. Instead, however, the Trojans got heartbreak. With two outs in the inning, UCLA’s Mulivai Levu hit a three-run walk-off home run to stun the Trojans and give the Bruins a 7-5 win.
In terms of brutality, this was about as bad as it gets for USC. The Trojans were an out away from not only knocking off the No. 1 team in the country, but stunning their crosstown rivals in a program-defining upset. Instead, however, they found themselves on the wrong side of a legendary moment from Levu.
With the loss, USC’s Big Ten Tournament run is now over. The Trojans will now await their NCAA Tournament fate, which they will find out on Monday when the bracket is revealed.
