Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is different: Pakistani analyst Nauman Niaz breaks down the factors behind his power-hitting capability
Pakistani cricket historian and television personality Dr Nauman Niaz has been in awe of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after his 97-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL Eliminator 2026 on Wednesday evening.

Niaz's central argument is that Sooryavanshi does not generate power the same way as a conventional cricket batter does. What he has built over the years, whether consciously or through natural development, borrows heavily from the mechanics used by elite baseball hitters.
The foundation is his back leg, which Niaz describes as unusually strong and stable, bearing the full load of his body weight and providing a firm base from which he can launch his brutal assaults.

"Sooryavanshi makes that mid-shot adjustment, which is amazing. Look at his body coil. He has brought baseball mechanics into cricket," Niaz began.
"His back leg is extremely strong, so it bears the load of his weight. And if you notice, he wrings his body inwards, which means his pivots inside are hip rotations. That maximisation of hip rotation is not natural; it has been built. So, this resembles baseball hitters."

The separation between hip movement and shoulder movement is where Niaz gets most specific.
"Sooryavanshi twists his trunk to maximise the separation angle, making the separation of hips and shoulders perfect before he hits, so it connects right in the middle because his dynamic balance is fully complete," he said.
"What happens because of that is his upper torso stores the rotational energy, and due to that, he gets a loaded spring effect in the bat. After that, when the tension is released, it turns into impact, and the energy uncoiling of the upper body is maximised. You don't need muscles for that. So, this multiplies the power, which is why his shots are so powerful."
Niaz believes that Sooryavanshi's genes are extraordinary, and he is a gifted prodigy.
"Even though he is about 15 and a quarter years old, he hits like someone with a 25-year-old muscular body. So, we were right in saying that he is a genetic genie, he is genetic," he said.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's bottom-hand dominance is another key factor
Niaz also pointed to two specific technical traits that set Sooryavanshi apart from most top-order T20 batters. The first is bottom-hand dominance, and the second is his ability to attack the good-length ball.
"Sooryavanshi has bottom-hand dominance and an early downswing," Niaz said.
"Then, he also dominates the good length, which is usually not possible. Where an ordinary person would defend for a good length, he hits it. What is the reason for that? And the reason is that his dynamic balance is 100%, and he gets a full bat swing with a 360-degree rotation."

What did Vaibhav Sooryavanshi say about his batting style?
Away from the technical dissection, Sooryavanshi himself offered a window into how he operates at the crease.
Speaking after the SRH match, he said: "I try to just analyse how to face the bowlers, judge the length of the boundaries. When I am showing good intent, the bowler is under pressure.
"I got to know after the game. My focus was on hitting a six. I will score centuries in the future, but the focus was on getting maximum runs for the team. I just work on my plan, and if there are any shortcomings, I just try to work on that."

The Cricket News Opinion: The baseball comparison explains everything about Sooryavanshi
Niaz's breakdown shows that Sooryavanshi has mastered a sophisticated set of mechanical actions to make them work in a perfect sequence.
Very few bowlers have escaped his wrath in IPL 2026, whether through genetics, coaching or sheer repetition from childhood, he has managed to evolve as the 'new six machine'.
Sooryavanshi looks like a finished product at 15 since he has the power, talent, and mental ability to execute in a match against international legends. He is a rare talent, and the BCCI must nurture him well.
