The 2025-26 Premier League season has plenty of storylines to follow along with, whether it was Arsenal winning their first title in 22 years or the intense relegation scrap between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United that went down to the wire.

While there was constant movement between the Lilywhites and the Hammers, there was one team that firmly sat in the relegation zone: Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves had struggled to get things going throughout the season, managing only 20 points, their lowest-ever tally, surpassing their 21-point total in the 1895-96 First Division season.
Their relegation down to the Championship means a few things: that the team could be raided in the upcoming transfer window, and that they’ll be looking to get back up to the English top-flight next season.
Kieran Trippier’s next chapter
It appears that Wolves are set to get a boost to their backline, as former England defender Kieran Trippier is slated to join the club for their first season back in the Championship, according to a recent report by the BBC. The deal is expected to be for two years, with an additional year thrown in as an option.
While the two sides have reached a verbal agreement, according to the article, it comes after what was quite an eventful stay at St. James Park for Trippier, having appeared in over 160 matches for the Magpies. While he made several appearances in the Champions League with Newcastle, perhaps his biggest achievements with the Magpies were lifting the 2024-25 Carabao Cup, following their 2-1 triumph over that season’s Premier League winners, Liverpool.
Imagining that all things go smoothly, when Trippier takes to the pitch with Wolves in the upcoming campaign, it’ll be his first time back in the Championship since his time with Burnley earlier on in his career.
