What are the pros and cons of the NBA's new lottery reform? League Commissioner Adam Silver and the Board of Governors recently voted to change how the Association conducts the draft lottery and the draft itself in an effort to address some especially egregious examples of teams tanking in recent seasons.
Abandoning the last model using flattened lottery odds, the lottery has now been expanded to 16 teams from 14, with the ball clubs with the three worst records actually getting worse odds than teams 4-14. The inclusion of play-in tournament losers and the rule to ban teams from getting a top-five pick multiple seasons in a row are more contentious, and for good reasons.
