When a guy like LeBron James becomes available, even at 41 and turning 42 at the end of December 2026, it's going to raise a lot of questions about what his future in the league looks like.

There's a reason he's the greatest player of all time, and even if he isn't the same player that he once was, teams understand that he can bring them a lot of money, and owners are often looking for that.

Whether he returns to the Los Angeles Lakers, goes back to the Cleveland Cavaliers, or wants to team up with somebody like Stephen Curry, there are a lot of ways that James could go about this free-agency thing this time around at this stage of his career.

However, and I'm glad somebody said it, Jake Fischer recently noted that he's been told to hold off on all the speculation about James not returning to the Lakers and anything else that could happen throughout this free-agency process.

“I’ve been told to hold off on speculating where LeBron is going to sign from LeBron’s side, because I think it’s very early in that regard,” Fischer said.

It's still so early in the process when we really think about it, as free agency hasn't even started yet. I'd expect James to make a decision rather early in free agency, but a couple of days and weeks can definitely change things a lot for a player's decision.

That's something James is eventually going to have to decide on, though there are more factors to consider now than in the past.
