If the Milwaukee Bucks want to stay competitive in the Eastern Conference, some trades will make much more sense than others.

One team in particular would be the Boston Celtics, as Boston could probably send back the best player Milwaukee could get in return if it wants to remain competitive.

That player is none other than Jaylen Brown, who has been the center of trade rumors over the past few weeks since the Celtics got knocked out in the postseason against the Philadelphia 76ers.

In a recent trade proposal, the idea would be to move on from Antetokounmpo for Brown, though it would only get two first-rounders back for the Bucks, and the 2026 first that the Celtics own is pretty much a second-rounder at No. 27.

Boston Celtics receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo, $706,566 trade exception

Milwaukee Bucks receive: Jaylen Brown, Max Shulga, 2026 first-rounder (No. 27), 2027 first-rounder

“Brown is the best player the Bucks could receive in an Antetokounmpo, but the draft compensation is relatively sparse. This path represents Milwaukee's intent to compete as quickly as possible, rather than a measured retool.

“Upcoming changes to the NBA's lottery system may make full rebuilds less attractive to teams—not that it was ever especially appealing to a franchise to bottom out over a sustained period. Regardless, the Bucks don't have their first-round pick in 2027,” Eric Pincus wrote.

As Pincus touched on here, the idea would be that Brown would be the best player the Bucks could get in return. My only problem here is that the Bucks aren't good enough to have Brown as their No. 1 option and still win a ring.

If the Celtics weren't good enough to do so this year and beat up on a bad Philadelphia 76ers team, then there's just no chance that the Bucks should feel confident with only Brown and a few of their young guys attempting to compete in an Eastern Conference that might have the best team in the NBA with the New York Knicks playing the way they are right now.
