FS1 Analyst Thinks “Real Hoopers” Would Pick Kelsey Mitchell, Not Caitlin Clark, As Fever’s Best Player
· Yahoo Sports
FS1 analyst Emmanuel Acho believes that “real hoopers” would consider Kelsey Mitchell the Indiana Fever’s best player over Caitlin Clark. Acho’s remarks came after the Clark- and Mitchell-led Indiana lost 108-101 to Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream on Thursday.

While analyzing the game on his show, Speakeasy, Acho asked glaring questions about Clark’s impact and whether she can be the one to lead Indiana to glory.
“I’m watching Caitlin Clark – she goes off the court, the Fever are down by nine – instantly the Fever go on a 9-0 run,” Acho said. “She comes back on the court, instantly Atlanta goes on a 6-0 run, 7-0 run, and then ultimately the Fever end up losing the game. Caitlin Clark is incredible, obviously. But she’s an incredible individual talent.”
“When I watch Caitlin Clark go off, Kelsey Mitchell is just sitting there – not in a rhythm, not in a groove, don’t know what to do. I’m sitting here wondering like, ‘Can the Fever reach their full potential with this version of Caitlin Clark?'”
Acho posed that question to his podcast guest T. J. Houshmandzadeh, who, in return, asked if Clark was the best player on the team and the WNBA experts’ consensus on it, to which Acho replied, saying:
“I think the real hoopers would say Kelsey Mitchell. … I think the loose fans will say, Caitlin.”
Emmanuel Acho’s criticisms stemmed from Caitlin Clark’s up-and-down season. While the superstar guard has averaged 20.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 8.2 assists, she’s shooting 40.7% from the field and 32.7% from three-point range. Clark is committing 4.6 turnovers per game, the highest in the league.
In Thursday’s loss, Clark was exceptional in scoring and playmaking, with 26 points and seven assists. However, the masses complained about her five turnovers, contested shotmaking, and high usage rate, pinning the blame on those issues for Indiana’s loss.
The Fever’s fourth-quarter burst only fueled the narrative on her shortcomings. They went on a 13-3 run in five minutes of Clark’s absence to tie the contest and then conceded a 15-7 run upon her re-entry,
Emmanuel Acho Questions Caitlin Clark’s Camaraderie
Emmanuel Acho called out Caitlin Clark’s camaraderie after saying that Kelsey Mitchell was the Fever’s best player. In an extended discussion about the Fever superstar’s impact, Acho said she wasn’t making her teammates better.
“Her camaraderie, it doesn’t appear to make those better around her,” he said on Thursday’s Speakeasy episode.
After T.J. Houshmandzadeh said that Clark is averaging over eight assists, Acho said it wasn’t about the numbers, but her mannerisms after a teammate would miss a pass from her or fail to execute.
He cited an incident from Thursday’s loss when Clark made a great pass to either Lexie Hull or Sophie Cunningham, and after they turned it over, the Fever superstar raised her arms in frustration.
Acho said Clark also makes “egregious” passes, but her teammates don’t react the same way. He compared it to LeBron James and other NBA players, who don’t react that way on the court to preserve camaraderie.
