Report: Luka Doncic is fully healthy and ready for offseason training

In multiple ways, the Los Angeles Lakers took a step forward this season toward winning the NBA championship. They finished the regular season with a 53-29 record and earned the fourth seed in the Western Conference, but once Luka Doncic suffered a hamstring strain on April 2, it was clear that they would fall short of their potential.

They ended up getting swept in the second round of the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder. While they won a playoff series after exiting in the first round in 2024 and 2025, they were still seemingly far away from where they want to be.

According to an ESPN report by Dave McMenamin, Doncic is now fully healthy and ready for his offseason training regimen. He's also in "constant communication" with two key members of the Lakers organization.

"Doncic is spending the summer in Slovenia with his daughters, Gabriela and Olivia, but sources close to him told ESPN he is in 'constant communication' with Lakers president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka and coach JJ Redick.

"Coming off a season in which he led the league in scoring at 33.5 points per game and finished fourth in MVP voting before a Grade 2 left hamstring strain sidelined him for L.A.'s postseason run, Doncic is finally healthy as he begins his offseason training.

"He was cleared for basketball activities on May 28 -- about 2½ weeks after their series against the Thunder finished, sources close to Doncic told ESPN.

"'He's in full go mode,' one source said."

Doncic was playing fantastic basketball this season until suffering his injury, especially in March when Los Angeles went 15-2. That month, he put up 37.5 points on 49.2% overall shooting and 39.2% from 3-point range, eight rebounds, 7.4 assists and 2.3 steals per game. He scored 60 points on March 19 versus the Miami Heat, which was tied for the second-highest-scoring game of his NBA career, and he even improved his defense, which had long been a bone of contention.

Last summer, the superstar dropped plenty of extra weight and got into fantastic shape. As soon as mid-May of this year, he had reportedly begun to stick to the same stringent diet he adopted last offseason.

He has made it clear he wants to win at least one championship with the Lakers, and he said this week that this offseason will be a very important one for them as they look to return to the top of the basketball world.
