"That's what really stood out to me: the tremendous parity we're seeing right now. I like that," he said.
"It's very difficult to win. At the national team level, the difference is minimal."
European champions Spain are among the top contenders for the title at tournament in North America but still haven't booked a spot in the knock-out stage after a goalless draw with Cape Verde and a 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia.
Spain are still in prime position to finish Group H in first as they lead the way with four points. Uruguay and Cape Verde are second and third respectively but tied on two points. Saudi Arabia sit last with one point.
"We need to give our best performance. Each round is more difficult. We want to reach the final and keep improving. The opponent will get tougher and tougher," De la Fuente said.
"The performance the other day (against Saudi Arabia) doesn't warrant any changes (in the starting line-up), but I'm very happy with what those who came on did and with what I've seen in training."
