Flyers Trade Back, Select Maksim Sokolovskii With 27th Overall Pick
· Yahoo Sports
The pick is in. After a trade back with the San Jose Sharks, with the 27th overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers have selected left-handed defenseman Maksim Sokolovskii from the London Knights.
GM Danny Briere dealt pick No. 21 to Mike Grier and the Sharks in exchange for the No. 27, No. 62, and No. 120 picks in the 2026 NHL Draft. The Flyers, who were depleted in the middle of this year’s draft, replenished their draft capital and now have 6 picks this year, including the 27th overall pick. With the trade, they now have a 2nd Round 2 selection, as well as a 4th-rounder.

Sokolovskii is a big, physical, mean defenseman who plays with a mean attitude. He hits hard and is a very fluid skater for someone with a 6’7″ frame. While he will play for London in the 2026-27 season, he is committed to the Maine Black Bears (NCAA) for the 2027-28 season.
Not only is he a long, rangy defenseman, but his play with the stick is incredible. It extends his range even further, which is mightily impressive. The big defenseman adds to a recent trend of size being drafted by the Flyers.
Sokolovskii was a late climber in draft rankings, going from a Day 2 pick to the 20’s range within the past week or so.
The Flyers will now have 5 remaining picks in this year’s draft, with No. 53 in Round 2 up next.
