The former Austria defender joined the Exiles last November to replace the sacked David Hughes.

Fuchs, a Premier League winner with Leicester, helped County avoid relegation from the Football League on the last day of the season.

However, the 40-year-old has opted to leave his role on the eve of pre-season to leave County hunting their fourth boss in just over two years.

"Newport County can confirm that Christian Fuchs has made the decision to step away from his role as manager," said a club statement.

"Everyone at Newport County would like to thank Christian for his hard work, commitment and professionalism, and wish him every success for the future."

The Exiles will have a new man at the helm for the third pre-season on the spin after Nelson Jardim and Hughes.

County start their season with a Carabao Cup game at AFC Wimbledon on the weekend of 8 August before a League Two opener against Rochdale at Rodney Parade on 15 August.
