2027 NFL Draft Summer Report: Drew Mesetmaker, QB, Oklahoma State

· Yahoo Sports

The 2027 NFL Draft has multiple bonafide hitters at the quarterback position. There's a pathway to where we see as many as six go in round one. One of the wildcards of this draft class is Oklahoma State transfer Drew Mesetmaker. Mesetmaker burst onto the scene last year with North Texas and follows his head coach to Stillwater.

Will he take that next step and become a national name? Let's talk about it.

  • Height: 6'4"
  • Weight: 211 lbs
  • Recruiting rank: Zero-star recruit in 2024
  • Hometown: Austin, Texas
  • Games watched: Washington State, USF, Charlotte, Tulane

Strengths

  • Lightning quick release
  • A-level arm
  • Great accuracy on his deep throws, one of the best in the country
  • Does a great job working through progressions
  • Led FBS in passing yards last season (4,379), tied-second in passing touchdowns (34)
  • Plus ability to throw with anticipation, often throwing his receivers open

Weaknesses

  • Will the jump in competition slow his hype?
  • Throwing motion, while fast, needs to be tighter
  • Worth noting, his two worst games came against ranked opponents
  • Would like to see him add 10-15 lbs this offseason

Drew Mesetmaker is such a fascinating prospect. He absolutely tore it up last season with North Texas, looking like a future star. He now plays in the Big 12, where he will face tougher defenses on a week-to-week basis. In terms of rankings, I have Mesetmaker as my QB4, with the potential to climb as high as QB2 depending on how this season goes.
