Dallas Mavericks interested in trading for Kawhi Leonard
According to a report from Christian Clark, Dan Woike and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Mavericks have engaged the Los Angeles Clippers on a potential trade involving star forward Kawhi Leonard.
Ujiri famously brought Leonard to Toronto prior to the 2018-19 NBA season and his addition resulted in the first championship in Raptors history.
From The Athletic:
Dallas Mavericks president Masai Ujiri has interest in reuniting with Kawhi Leonard, multiple league sources with knowledge of Dallas’ thinking told The Athletic.
The Mavericks and LA Clippers have discussed a deal that would send the seven-time All-Star to Dallas for a package that would include P.J. Washington, Klay Thompson and draft picks, said league sources granted anonymity to describe deliberations still in progress.
Leonard has one year and $53 million remaining on his current contract with the Clippers. He's slated to be an unrestricted free agent next summer, unless he signs an extension beforehand.
Leonard averaged a career-high 27.9 points per game last season, along with 6.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.9 steals.
We'll have to wait and see if a deal between Dallas and L.A. actually comes to fruition.
