The Boston Celtics believe they were a center away from making another NBA Finals run, and it's hard to argue with them.
Their inability to generate any offense in the paint is what got them eliminated at the hands of one of the Eastern Conference's top centers, Joel Embiid.
If the Celtics did nothing this offseason besides acquire a starting center, it would be viewed as a success.
Jake Fischer and Marc Stein reported over the weekend that Boston's first "splash" of free agency could be signing three-time NBA Champion center Kevon Looney.
"It's believed that Looney is also on Boston's list of center targets, which is likewise known to feature former Celtics big man Robert Williams III," The Stein Line report read. "Yet don't forget that Knicks coach Mike Brown has a pre-existing relationship with Looney thanks to their time together in Golden State."
Looney spent last season on the New Orleans Pelicans after spending his first nine NBA seasons on the Golden State Warriors. He only played 21 games for New Orleans, posting an unimpressive 3-2-6 split.
At his peak, the now 30-year-old was the starting center for a Warriors team that beat Boston in the NBA Finals. He averaged seven rebounds a game that season.
