Explaining the current situation with Hogs Haven staff and moderation

· Yahoo Sports

Hello Commanders fans! I’m Jeanna Kelley, SB Nation’s NFL News Director. We’ve seen the comments about Mark’s departure and moderation and I wanted to share some context to help everyone understand our community guidelines and how they’re enforced by the moderation team.

Visit rouesnews.click for more information.

First, on Mark: Mark was not fired or asked to leave, and if he does decide he wants to step away indefinitely, we will respect his decision, because we respect Mark. Mark is not just welcome at Hogs Haven; he’s valued here as a writer and a member of this community. (I held off publishing this until I could speak to Mark and get permission to include this information).

On comments that were removed despite not violating the community guidelines: When a comment that violates the community guidelines is removed, all of the replies to that comment are automatically removed also regardless of their content. Without the original comment those replies were connected to, the replies don’t make much sense.

Why SB Nation removes comments about moderation: We do not allow conversations about moderation on our sites is because it detracts from the conversation about the teams our communities cover. Moderation discussions often lead to abuse of staff (both on the moderation team, and often site staff who are presumed to have moderation permissions whether they do or not), and they tend to spiral pretty quickly and dominate entire comment sections. The purpose of this community rule is to keep the focus on the team.

I apologize for the confusion and I hope this helps you understand a bit more about how the community guidelines are applied in moderation and clears up some of the uncertainty from the past few days.

I will personally handle moderating the comments on this post so you can feel free to ask questions about moderation and Hogs Haven in this article’s comment section ONLY, and I’ll do my best to answer them.
