Mercedes driver Antonelli clocked 1 minute 28.111 seconds on the 5.891-kilometre Silverstone circuit for his fifth pole of the season as he held off the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
Leclerc trailed by .175 of a second and Hamilton by .347. George Russell, the winner last weekend in Austria was fourth in the other Mercedes after riding out in a Q1 scare and former champion Max Verstappen was seventh for Red Bull.
Antonelli, 19, complained on team radio that he was out first for the deciding final flying lap but he was unstoppable for a fifth season pole like in the sprint earlier in the day where he passed the pole sitter Hamilton midway through the race for victory.
Reigning world champion Lando Norris of McLaren was third in the sprint before having to settle for sixth in qualifying for the grand prix proper.
Five-time season GP race winner Antonelli leads the standings 43 points ahead of Russell and 47 ahead of seven-time world champion Hamilton.
