No DNA, just RSA! Ellis Park comes alive with ‘beautiful’ anthem [video]

South Africans belted out the national anthem, sung by Jodi Fredericks, at the Springboks first test match of the year in Ellis Park. 

The Boks beat England 45-21 on Saturday, 4 July.

On Saturday, the Springboks tasted sweet victory in their first test match with a win over their rugby rivals, England.

Performing the national anthem was Cape Town singer Jodi Fredericks, who hit all the right notes. Springboks like Siya Kolisi – who sat out the match due to injury – and Cheslin Kolbe were amongst some of the players who passionately sang along with the crowd.

The singer was praised for her uplifting and inspiring rendition of Nkosi Sikelel iAfrica. 

X user @anne_ngwenya tweeted: “She sang so beautifully 🥹”, while @goodwill.christian added: “No DNA just RSA . Our anthem is literally the best”.

SPRINGBOKS FANS PACK ELLIS PARK

Despite earlier concerns about audience attendance, reportedly due to expensive ticket prices, Springboks fans came out in droves to fill up Ellis Park.

The 65 000 seater stadium appeared to be packed to capacity.

“Which SARU salesman shifted 10k tickets in the space of 3 hours because Ellis Park is rammed!”, tweeted @rugby_ap

In the lead-up to the game, SA Rugby slashed ticket prices, which were snapped up by eager Bok fans.
