Yahoo Sports launches college fantasy football for 2026 season

· Yahoo Sports

Football fans, especially fantasy football fans, can rejoice as some major news hit the fantasy world Thursday morning with Yahoo Sports opening signups for college fantasy football.

College football fans can now build a team of their favorite college stars. Drafts will begin Aug. 3, with the first scoring week beginning on Sept. 3. According to Yahoo Sports, scoring and lineups will be the same as the outlet's NFL fantasy system. The most important factor is that the player pool only includes Power Four programs, so 68 teams.

There are some significant differences, however, default Yahoo leagues will have your traditional lineup slots, but will also add a Team Offense position and no kicker slot. The Team Offense position is fascinating and is "designed to reward efficient, high-scoring units that minimize mistakes."

How does college fantasy football work

For the Team Offense position specifically, every touchdown, field goal, and victory earns fantasy points, and turnovers are also more costly than in the NFL. Put simply, Team Offense will be similar to a defense/special teams, making streaming a Team Offense a possible prudent strategy, especially early in the year when schedules can be softer.

We all know that running backs and wide receivers dominate drafts and the scoreboard. That will be even more true at the college level when offensive production is routinely on a higher level. Expect running backs to dominate the early picks in college fantasy drafts, with West Virginia's Cam Cook and BYU's LJ Martin among the top options.

Tight ends will also have a slightly different role, as many college teams place a wide receiver there, making the position more valuable in college.

Which college players could score the most fantasy points?

For Colorado, wide receivers Danny Scudero, Kam Perry and DeAndre Moore Jr. are the likeliest fantasy stars, but what about around college football? Here are some players that should go high in your college football fantasy drafts:

  • WR Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State
  • RB Ahmad Hardy, Missouri
  • RB Kewan Lacy, Ole Miss
  • WR Malachi Toney, Miami
  • RB Mark Fletcher Jr., Miami
  • QB Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss
  • OB Julian Sayin, Ohio State
  • QB Dante Moore, Oregon
  • WR Cam Coleman, Texas
