Brodie Purcell drafted by Cincinnati Reds in 2026 MLB draft

The Cincinnati Reds have drafted Brodie Purcell with the 362nd overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft. He is the seventh Seminole to be drafted.

Purcell spent just one season in Tallahassee after starting his career with the USC Trojans. He was one of two USC transfers Link Jarrett added over the offseason, with outfielder Brayden Dowd being taken by the Arizona Diamondbacksin the third round.

He appeared in 23 games for the Seminoles, going 5-2 with three saves and a 4.97 ERA over 38 innings. He held opponents to a .207 batting average, allowing 21 runs on 29 hits and 21 walks with 58 strikeouts.

Purcell was key for FSU during the Tallahassee Regional, earning the win in their games against Northern Illinois and Coastal Carolina. He threw a perfect inning against Coastal Carolina before throwing 3 1/3 shutout innings against NIU the next day. He allowed just one hit and a walk, striking out seven to close out the game.

The Aliso Viejo, California native spent two seasons at USC, going 5-2 with four saves in 50 appearances. The righty had a 2.89 ERA and held opponents to a .194 batting average over 71 2/3 innings, striking out 82.

He is the fifth FSU pitcher taken already, joining Wes Mendes, Bryson Moore, Trey Beard, and Cole Stokes.
